IB Africa, Europe and Middle East newsletter

The purpose of this newsletter is to share with you and with your colleagues involved in admissions, information on various matters relating to university and college applications from students who are studying for the IB Diploma Programme.

How many top grades?

The following table provides some information on the grade distributions of the May 2005 results when over sixty-five thousand candidates were examined. The numbers under the grades are percentages.

Note. Mathematics is a compulsory subject for diploma candidates only, hence the difference between the number taking a mathematics programme and the total number of candidates examined. 

For comparison, here are percentages of candidates gaining the top grade in A level and IB over the last 10 years for English (A2 and IB A1 higher level) and mathematics (A2 and IB higher level).

In most IB subjects around 10% of students achieve the top grade.
