Quarter One, 2008
Regional Council
As reported in the last newsletter by the Regional Director Judith
Guy, the newly constituted Regional Council had its first meeting
at the end of November last year. This followed the final meeting of the Regional Heads Representative Committee.
A smooth transition from the RHRC to the Regional Council was
effected. Thanks are expressed to the outgoing Chair of the
RHRC Karin Caffin, Head of Osaka International School and
especially to Masood Faizullah, the outgoing Chair of the IBAP
RAC who chaired the first meeting of the Regional Council.
Considerable time during our first meeting was spent
establishing key aspects of our new role and function, and our
means of operation.
Shared understanding was gained in terms of relationships with
the Regional Director and with other governance and
management groups within the IBO.
The Regional Council is blessed with a talented membership
bringing Heads of School, University and Business Prospectives
to its task of supporting the Regional Director and thereby
strengthening the work of the Regional Office.
The Regional Council, in its first meeting, gained great
assistance from Berit Lakey in helping to develop appropriate
and helpful meeting protocols which will aid us in our mission
and objectives.
The Regional Council of the Asia Pacific Region will meet in May
and November this year in Singapore. The Regional Director is
keen that our initial objectives be to provide support and advice
in the areas of :
- Professional Development
- University recognition
- Funding and development for outreach projects
The Council looks forward to its new role and to strengthening
the mission of IB in the Asia Pacific Region. The Council will be
meeting on 2 and 3 May 2008 in Singapore.
