Obtaining a license to use IB Material
Using IB trademarks
There are certain safeguards that the International Baccalaureate® (IB) needs to protect its name and logo.
"International Baccalaureate®", "IB World School" and various IB logos that include the initials "IB" are internationally registered trademarks of the International Baccalaureate Organization. It allows neither the name nor the logo to appear on any product other than on material produced by the IB itself or by another publisher or supplier under a special agreement with the IB.
The appearance of a recognized IB logo on published material should indicate that the IB is the publisher or has worked very closely with the publisher in the development of that material.
If, as a publisher without a special agreement with the IB, you want to produce material for IB schools, please put a disclaimer in a suitably prominent place, stating clearly that the material has been developed independently of the International Baccalaureate®, which in no way endorses it. Also, please do not use the official name of the programme in the title of your publication, but instead add in explanation, for example, "For use with the IB Diploma Programme"—wording that may appear on the cover or in your marketing.
Quoting IB material
If, as a publisher or provider, you want to reproduce IB material, please note the following.
- You may quote extracts about the IB or its programmes from this website, without seeking direct permission. As a guideline, the IB considers extracts to be approximately 300 words of continuous prose and about 800 words made up of segments of prose provided they are no more than 200 words each. You should always give full acknowledgment of the IB as copyright holder and the source of the quote.
- You will need to seek permission directly, by means of a request for a licence (see copyright pages), if you want to quote at greater length from other IB published material, including reproducing a diagram or table, or a past examination question. In certain circumstances the IB will make a charge.
