IB Asia Pacific In-school Workshop Requirements

In-school workshops are recognized for school authorization and evaluation purposes. Schools should demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the breadth of IB professional development strategies beyond in-school workshops, including regional workshop and on-line workshop training.

Please read the following in-school workshop requirements carefully. During the online in-school workshop request process, you will be asked to “tick” to indicate that you have read these requirements and agreed to them.

1. In-school workshop conditions:

a) If the in-school workshop is cancelled after the confirmation of the workshop leader(s), the school agrees to pay IB Asia Pacific a standard cancellation fee of $500. The school also agrees to reimburse the workshop leader if the workshop leader has already purchased a non-reimbursable flight for the event.

b) In-school workshops are available to candidate and authorized IB schools. Schools at the interested phase may request an in school workshop pending candidate status.   PYP schools can request for a workshop once they have had a preliminary visit.

c) Due to logistical constraints, PYP in-school workshops are not available in January and September.

d) All staff teaching the programme must be in attendance at the workshop and attend all workshop sessions.

e) The in-school workshop must be delivered over 2-3 consecutive student-free days (i.e. teachers from the programme will have no student contact on these professional development days).

f) The school will not exceed the workshop participant / leader ratio of 1 workshop leader per 25 participants.

g) Schools with over 40 participants may request two workshops. (60 participants – three workshop etc.) The school must submit a separate request form and a separate participants’ registration list is required for each workshop.

h) The school should submit the electronic in-school request form at least 5 months prior to the proposed dates.  The 5 months advance notice is to support both the workshop leader and the schools that release them. Ordinarily we will need to reject applications that do not provide 5 months notice. However, if there are special circumstances which mean that you cannot give this notice then please talk to us.

i) Programme-specific in-school workshops will not be delivered in a school more than once a year.

j) Participants will be sent an online survey to fill in after the workshop.
