Regional Council
Mr Rod Fraser (Chair)
Head of School
Ivanhoe Grammar School, Australia
Rod is currently Principal/CEO of Ivanhoe Grammar School, Melbourne – a co-educational Independent School (Prep - Year 12) on two Campuses with 1850 students and 180 academic staff.
His career in education has been at both university and school level, as a teacher, lecturer and senior administrator. Ivanhoe Grammar School is the second School that he has led.
He has extensive experience in International Educational activities through the IBO and through the Round Square International Network of Schools. He is currently Chair of both the Regional Council of the International Baccalaureate of the IB for the Asia/Pacific Region (and a member of the Heads’ Council and of the Board of Directors of Round Square). He has presented in a number of International Education Forums with a particular emphasis on sharing the transformational experience he has led in his current school with regards to internationalising the curriculum and out of classroom experience for students and staff.
How can the IB tap into your expertise/experience?
I believe that the IBO has the ability to draw on the experience and expertise of many teachers and senior administrators working in IB World Schools across the globe.
In my own case, my 19 years as a Head of School (in two different settings), and before that as a Senior Administrator in two other Schools, has given me an insight into the significance of curriculum initiatives and administrative requirements to provide for a rich environment in which successful outcomes for students have the greatest opportunity to flourish.
What do you think are the strategic imperatives and challenges for IB in this region? How do you think it can meet them?
- Communication – both within the organisation and between the IBO and IB World Schools.
- Managing growth whilst ensuring that standards are maintained and existing IB World Schools effectively serviced.
- Effectively servicing the needs of Member Schools particularly in terms of Professional Development and the pre-service training of new teachers.
What are the two lessons you learned in your career that you would pass on to others?
- Understanding that no one person has a monopoly on ideas and
- Sustained commitment to an objective is required in order to reach a successful outcome.
What is the last book that you read?
I am reading ‘Three Cups of Tea’ by Greg Mortensen.
