Salary: £31,000 - £38,000 per year dependent upon experience

This position is in the Diploma Programme (DP) within group 4, experimental sciences to support the development and management of the chemistry curriculum and possibly other subjects such as sports, exercise and health science (currently a pilot programme) and environmental systems and societies (a group 3/4 transdisciplinary subject).
The Diploma Programme is designed as an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, normally aged 16 to 19, for success at university and life beyond. The programme is normally taught over two years. IB Diploma Programme students study six courses at higher level or standard level chosen from each of groups 1 to 5 to provide breadth of experience in languages, social studies, the experimental sciences and mathematics. The sixth subject may be an arts subject chosen from group 6, or the student may choose another subject from groups 1 to 5. Currently there are over 2000 schools implementing the Diploma Programme in 135 countries.
Curriculum subject area managers are responsible for leading and managing curriculum research, review and development for a number of subjects, producing the course guides, teacher support material and professional development materials for teachers. They will display meticulous attention to detail, have excellent organizational and communication skills, and hands-on experience of managing teams.
The post holder will work alongside the Diploma Programme assessment team and closely with other departments within the International Baccalaureate and also with external educators such as teams of teachers, examiners, consultants and others.
Requirements:
- A qualification at degree level in chemistry
- Significant experience in teaching at an upper secondary level preferably within an IB school
- Experience in curriculum design and development and/or educational research
- An understanding of current developments and trends in education
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to communicate in Spanish or other languages is desirable.
- Accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
- An ability to work in teams with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience of using relevant IT packages including the ability to use a variety of desktop applications
- Ability to prioritize work over diverse timelines and meet tight deadlines
- Flexibility to accommodate a variety of work arrangements will be an added advantage

Location
The post will be based in The Hague from September 2011. From September 2010 until September 2011 the post holder may work in our new office in The Hague or the IB Cardiff office or possibly from a present home location.
The position will involve some international travel.
