A World to Explore and Connections to be Made: Building Inquiry into MYP Interdisciplinary Units at the American Museum of Natural History
Created for MYP practitioners, this workshop will enable participants to discover how to develop effective and appropriate interdisciplinary units in a museum setting. The workshop will provide background knowledge of the MYP philosophy and principles of interdisciplinary unit design and provide opportunities for teachers to work with colleagues to develop an interdisciplinary unit using the museum environment as a resource.
The workshop will include a focus on student centered learning, interdisciplinary unit planning, and MYP assessment. Participants will have strategies for accessing museums and resources in their local communities to develop relevant and engaging interdisciplinary units.
Three hours of this 15-hour workshop will be held ONLINE in the week before and after the on-site dates. Participants will receive information about accessing and using the online space from their workshop leaders and staff at AMNH. Online participation is required in the form of reading responses and forum discussion.
It is recommended that schools send teams of at least two teachers from different subject groups so work can begin on a unit plan that can be used at their home school. Singletons are also welcome.
